Highland Park Man Wins Over $213000 on Jeopardy
When the familiar theme song played and the stage lights brightened, Jason Keller had already achieved his childhood dream of appearing on his favorite game show, Jeopardy.
By the end of a nine-episode run, with $213,900 in winnings, the Highland Park resident can happily check that off his list.
"This is something that I've wanted for a really long time, and I've usually been an optimist," said Keller, who also grew up watching Wheel of Fortune and hoping to play Where the World is Carmen San Diego? "I always felt that it would happen eventually."
Since he was a teenager, Keller sent postcards and self-addressed stamped envelopes to the show that provides answers, not questions, then registered online as the process evolved, without any response.
His "in" arrived when the show began online testing as the first filter.
Keller passed the test four separate times and received three in-person auditions. By the third time, Keller felt confident, telling producers about his friendships with former Jeopardy contestants through Scrabble tournaments, Quiz Bowls and other events.
